Exciting Events, Projects and Ideas: April Post

I hope everyone has been enjoying the lovely weather. I was inside all weekend, with my craft stall in Stockport, but it did give me a good idea for a new youth project in Poynton. Not sure if you’re aware but on Sunday (April 1st) Stockport covered market hosted The Teenage Market, a marketplace and creative space for young people to connect and collaborate at Stockport Market Hall. There was an amazing turn out with lots of young people selling their own produce and a great many perusing and buying from the different stalls. This made me wonder if there are any budding young entrepreneurs in Poynton who would be interested in doing something similar? If so please let me know, it would be great to have our own young people’s market somewhere in the village.

In other news, there lot’s of exciting plans for the summer…

Poynton 2012 Embrace The Games event.

The Poynton 2012 Embrace the Games family fun day plans are coming along really well. With only 10 weeks to go, we’re still looking for help on the day.

You could get involved in the following ways:

  • You may like to advertise your sports club/society by putting on some sporting activities, bringing along flyers etc.
  • As a band, choir or dance group you might want to put on a showcase of your talents.
  • Bring along your bike and take part in the parade.
  • Hold a stall advertising your community group, what you do and how people can get involved
  • Have a cultural stall showcasing artistic skills or offer craft activities.

Whatever your interest, I would very much like to hear from you. Please you could let me know by Monday 16th April so we can move forward with the planning of the event.

Poynton Legacy Fund

On the 16th June any money raised will go the Poynton Legacy fund, a fund which was launched at last year’s Poynton’s Gold event. The aim of this fund is to connect local people with sport, for example by providing free sport/dance sessions for children, young people and adults to enjoy or provide money for new equipment. The fund will be managed by a working party and a young persons’ forum. Once the fund is up and running, community groups will be encouraged to apply for funding.

Poynton Bike Scheme – Attention all Cyclists!

In partnership with the neighborhood police team we are launching a new bike scheme. On Saturday 5th May we will hold a bike day on Park Lane, where residents can get bikes marked for free. Further events are planned, with a stall at Poynton 2012 on the 16th June we plan to have bike maintenance as well as marking. We hope that as cycling gets more and more popular we can promote bike safety as well as ensure young people know how to keep their bikes in top condition.

Childminder drop-in sessions across Cheshire East

Registered childminders are invited to a series of drop-in sessions held by Cheshire East Family Service. At the sessions, childminders will get the opportunity to update and manage information about them that is held in the online directory. They will also be offered tips on how to use the directory to better promote themselves. This could involve providing a list of services they can offer, such as school pick-ups in a certain geographical area, as well as any qualifications they may have.

It can also be used to update childcare vacancies and renew data protection permissions.

The directory can be viewed HERE

Drop-in events local to Poynton are taking place at the following children’s centres (CC) on the dates shown:

  • ·Tuesday, April 24 – Poynton CC, Vernon Primary School, Clumber Road;
  • ·Thursday, April 26 – Broken Cross CC, Parkett Hayes Road, Macclesfield;
  • ·Wednesday, May 2 – Oakenclough CC, Colshaw Drive, Wilmslow;
  • ·Friday, May 11 – Ash Grove CC, Ash Grove, Macclesfield.

For more information on becoming a childminder, please ring 0300 123 5033.

Youth Civic Awards

Do you know some young people who give up their time voluntarily? Have started their own business? Or should be commended for work they do in the community? I’m looking for nominations for the Youth Civic awards. If you know of anyone who you think deserves a Youth Civic Award please let me know .

Other Pages.

Check out the other pages for more information including the ‘what’s on’ page for events happening over Easter and the next few weeks.  Also do send me any updates and I’ll try to include as many as possible on my blog pages.

Best wishes,

  1. Hi Erica

    Yes, I think that Wheelies will be able to support your Embrace the Games event in some way. We have a meeting later this week at which we will discuss our involvement. We could have a stall, and could have some sports wheelchairs which people of all ages could use to do relay races, shoot baskets, do a timed circuit, however we would need a good surface for this, possibly indoors. Dependent on the length and terrain of the parade some of our members may be able to take part in that as well. If you would like to give me a call we could discuss it further.

    Best regards. Irene Wilde, Activity Secretary, Wheelies Sport and Activity Club
