As we draw close to the end of the summer term and what should be a glorious summer stretches ahead of us this blog post contains lots of exciting events that you can get involved with over the summer. I’d also like to pass on my thanks to all those that attended Poynton 2012 Embrace the Games which although turned out to be quite wet and windy was still very well attended particularly for the sports group who were lucky to have an inside spot. On the day lots of young people got the opportunity to try out lots of exciting activities as well as experience new sports or improve their skills. Some people were even lucky enough to receive a medal from Paralympic Swimmer Dan Pepper and Badminton Champion Matthew Nottingham. It was a great day and if you’d like to be part of a similar event next year please let me know.
The weather hasn’t been much better for other events happening in the village, Party in the Park and the Jubilee Arts festival both went down well even though the rain came down. The Higher Poynton Summerfest was unfortunately canceled due to weather conditions but the dedicated team of volunteers are not defeated and are looking to next year already.
So with fingers crossed that the rain can’t and won’t ruin any more events this summer here’s what you can get involved in over the next few weeks.

As the school summer term draws to a close I’ve been working closely with the high school and have been assisting with a variety of activities these include activities week, transition day and citizenship morning. These sessions have given me the opportunity to meet lots of the young people in Poynton, find out their views and promote my role with the young people of Poynton. If you work with a group of young people and think it would be good for me to attend one of your sessions and find out a bit more about how we can help one another please contact me.
Sunday 15th July was Civic Sunday where local residents had the opportunity to come together at the Civic Hall and celebrate the Civic Awards. As part of the ceremony 7 individuals and a group award were presented to young people for the time and effort they put into supporting others and overcoming challenges. These young people were Jake Howard, Daisy Lee, Emily Wagstaff, Molly Fenton, Adam Costello, Madeline North, George Linney and a group award going to the ATC Cadets. It was great to see the young people receive their awards and be recognised for their efforts. The Civic Awards happen annually so feel free to send in nominations as and when they come to you.
A reminder that we offer reduced rate on CRBs for volunteers so if anyone works/volunteers for a community organisation in Poynton and is in need of a CRB for new volunteers please contact me. I can also pass on information for how groups can access training for a variety of different needs. Please contact me if you’d like so more information.

Just Drop In Youth Info and Advice

Currently celebrating their 10th year they are growing and always looking for the continued support of volunteers. They’re also holding events to celebrate their 10 years so if you’d like to offer your support or just see what they’re about why not head down for a BBQ at St Michaels to celebrate JDI’s 10 years of supporting the young people of Macclesfield. On Sat 4th August 5pm-7pm there will be music and entertainment, arts and a time capsule project along with food and refreshments. Also as we can’t rely on the good old British weather it’ll be inside in the church if its wet!
