Autumn Fun: October Update

So when the nights are drawing in you can sometimes feel like you just want to stay in, however there are lots of things happening over the next few days, weeks and months to keep us active and enjoying a few more rare sunny days as well indoor activities. I hope lots of people took the opportunity this weekend to get out on their bikes for an unusually warm October weekend? A few weeks ago PCSO Chris Luke and I held a bike marking event which was particularly well attended by young people. Don’t worry if you’ve not had yours done yet, we’re hoping to hold more events, so keep a look out on Twitter and on here for more info.

So what’s happening over Autumn…

First of all I’d like to promote sessions happening this half term, being delivered with support from Cheshire East Leisure Development team. These range from sessions at Poynton Library, to play sessions at Barnaby Park. To have a look at whats happening click the link: Leisure Activities over October Half Term. Information about up and coming activities can also be found on the Town Council’s new website.

You’ll notice that as part of the half term sessions we’re supporting Cheshire East with a Bikeability course, following this, we’re planning to hold bike maintenance session in partnership with Cheshire East and InGear bike shop on School Lane. If you’d be interested in finding out more about this course please contact me.

This half term and into November there is also the opportunity to try your hand at Badminton, so whether you’re a parent wanting to get into sport or looking for a whole family activity there are sessions for you. Have  a look at the Poynton Badminton Sessions, poster for more details.

Sport and Theatre?

The Incredible Doctor Guttmann Theatre Tour is coming to Poynton High School on Friday 2nd November at 6:30pm tickets can be booked through the school T: 01625 871811. The performance explores the inspiring and moving, true story of Dr “Poppa” Guttmann, pioneering spinal injuries surgeon and father of the modern Paralympic movement.

Recently I’ve been supporting some young people in Poynton with finding volunteering opportunities. Remember there are lots of opportunities out there that can help with job applications, give you more experience or help with applications for further education. If you or someone you know would like support finding opportunities please contact me. Plus if the Olympics inspired you to get involved in more sport why not try volunteering with Cheshire East Leisure Development Team. Download the Volunteer Programme Application form, fill it in and return to Charlie Maines (details at the end of the form). If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Remember you can always find information about funding opportunities on the funding page, for those who are interested there is a meet the funder event this week at the Civic Hall.

Meet the Funder event 24th October @ Poynton Civic Hall

WREN and Children In Need will be giving presentations to organisations who are thinking of applying to one or both funds. They will also hold 1-2-1s afterwards. For those that are only interested in one of the funds, CVSCE group development staff will have a stand at the event to talk about funding in general and provide support to those filling in or thinking of applying for funding.

The event starts at 10am and finishes at 12. Refreshments are provided. To book on please go to the CVSCE website to view the event info or you can call Aoife Middlemass on 01625 428301.

Bonfire Night

Finally don’t forget the annual Round Table bonfire event on Saturday 3rd November at Poynton Pool. Tickets are available from Mates DIY and local schools. Visit their website to find out more.

Once again thanks so much for reading and if you have any events or activities to promote please let me know.

Best wishes,
